Pickin’ Peaches

Monday, June 29th, 2009

dsc_6195atwebHere we see Wes Isom of Isom’s Orchards  “Pickin’ Peaches”.  This was taken last Saturday morning as they were first picking a variety called Harvester.  This peach is a very good variety and is a free-stone or cling free, whichever you perfer.  Meaning the seed stays on one side when you break the peach in half. Also fresh right now they have: Corn, eggplant, squash, blueberries, cabbage, beans  and I’m sure I missed something.

Chicken’s Week 5

dsc_6160atweb

Now they are looking like Chicken’s as you can see from the shot above.  At about this stage, 28 days, they are what we know as Cornish Hens in the Supermarket.  So the Cornish Hen is not a breed, but a size for market.  There are houses that specialize in  “Cornish Hens”.  At this stage they consume about 1,400 gallons of water per day, per house.  If you look at this shot you can tell the Rooster from the Pullet (a Pullet is what the female is called till she lays her first egg, then she is a Hen).  Of the three main Chicken’s in the shot, the one in the center is the Pullet and is flanked by a Rooster on each side.  The size of the comb (appendage on the top of their head) is larger on the Rooster.    Looks like several Rooster’s in this image.

Make Up and More

dsc_3532atwebThis is a shot of Claudia being made up by Make Up Artist (MUA) Jamie Rose. A great capture taken by my sidekick TammiG during the hair and make up session. Thanks to Jamie and DanTera for the great job. This was for the Bridal and Trash The Dress shoot taken June 13th and 14th.
The images for these two are on the image galleries and something new- VIDEO SLIDESHOWS - check those out on the Video Slideshow page. I am excited about these as they become more than just a slideshow. Always more to come.

Chicken’s Week 4

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

dsc_6109atweb

As you can see in the photo above, the Chicken’s have grown since last week but still look scruffy.  They are about 8-10 inches tall, and at 20,000 per house they are filling the place up as they grow.  They are using 1,100 gallons of water per house per week.  You can see they also have more comb since last week.  They are curious and will come up to investigate you if you stay still.

Blueberries

dsc_6023atweb

In the shot above you see something you don’t encounter in the South very often, Blueberries.  Isom’s Orchards has two long rows of several varieties that are just now reaching the bearing maturity stage.  This variety has been picked once and is due again today.  As with many fruits they ripen at varying rates so getting an all blue shot may not be possible.  They have to stay on top of them as the birds seem to like them as well.

Trash the Dress

Sometimes you don’t get what you want, but get what you need.  That line from a Rolling Stones song rings so true for the shot above.  What do you do when you are  less than thirty minutes away from the bottom falling out and you had a whole day of shots planned?  This is a shot that I had planned, but under very different lighting conditions.   We were working at breakneck speed to get what we could.  It was very dark in the woods, due to the cloud cover and fog, which you may be able to see in the background.  As it was, this shot came out beautiful, and we got something that otherwise we would never have gotten.  The model in this shot is Claudia.  She is  not only beautiful but smart to boot, with a great personality.  She has a MBA and teaches at one of the colleges in Nashville.  I am honored that she made time in her schedule to come down and shoot with us.

Chicken’s Week 3

Friday, June 12th, 2009

dsc_5336atweb

In the shot above you see the chicks hitting the water.  They learn early to hit the toggle and presto water.  At this stage they go through 6o0 gallons a day.  This is “Ugly” week, not fully out of down and not in full feather.  They have grown a lot since last week and are now in whole house.  By next week they should be full feather and showing combs.  You can see hints of them now.

Plum Crazy

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

dsc_5153atweb1

If your plum crazy then your time is now.  This variety of early plum is one of the best tasting of all the plums.  The trees are loaded and seem to be getting ripe almost all at the same time, so the season for this variety will be short.  Get them at Isom’s Orchards while you can.

DanTera 2

The ladies in the above stylized shot are the crew at DanTera 2 which has moved into larger digs.  The salon/spa is quite impressive both in size and offered amenities.  So if your in the Madison area stop by the new and improved DanTera 2.  They offer cuts.styles, massages, manicures and pedicures for both men and women.

Chicken’s Week 2

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

dsc_4701atweb

As you can see from the shot above the chicken’s are starting to lose their down and start putting on feathers.  It is almost time to go whole house as they are growing rapidly.  We’ll see what week three brings.
