The “Falls” Tour

Monday, March 30th, 2009

dsc_1426ztweb

The above shot is of  Connestee Falls outside of Brevard NC.  This is a little known Falls on the way to the DuPont series of Falls.  We saw at least nine Falls in one long day this last Sunday.  Very beautiful all of them, I’ll post more or  I may run a gallery on the photo page.

The photo above is an old bridge somewhere over Sugar Creek.  A great old bridge that looks like it is both coming and going nowhere.  A primo backdrop for a photo shoot.

Drive and Shoot

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

dsc_1261ztwebThe above shot is of a non-working water wheel mill.  Non-working as in not making grain, just for looks.  It is located in West Limestone and is only one of many scenic venues we saw and shot on a trek with our friends the DuBois yesterday.  The trip was  to long for my ailing back but the scenery was fantastic.  We started out at his brothers where there is a old civil war era train bridge that now supports part of the eleven mile long Rails to Trails which runs from Piney Chapel to Veto.  His brothers house sits where an old fort once guarded the trestle.  We hit a tunnel, and a old bridge over Sugar Creek.  Many nice places to carry clients for a  photo-shoot.

Morning Light

The shot above is taken in morning light. I have been sitting at the computer every morning and looking at the creek out the window and seeing all that beautiful light coming in. So this morning I blew off the gym and went on a shoot-about, the light is entirely different than afternoon light and would be great for shooting except most people have problems with mornings. That’s a shame as the light is so spectacular.

Dome-O-Cile

dsc_0987stweb

In the stylized shot featured above you see one of the better inventions of the 20th century.  Six times stronger and a third more energy efficient than a conventional home.  The Geodesic Dome was conceived by a somewhat offbeat inventor/genius by the the name of R. Buckminster Fuller, aka Bucky….only one of his inventions, but probably his best.  You can only imagine the looks on peoples faces when they saw it, when it was built nearly 30 years ago, as the first one in the state.  And the looks are the same today….

Pine Pollen

Monday, March 16th, 2009

dsc_0962ztweb

In the shot above you see start of this years Pine Cones….along with the cones comes the pollen…and pine pollen is one of the worst offenders when it comes to allergies…and the Tennessee valley is one of the worst places in the world for allergy sufferers…so hang on, things are turning green and looking like Spring, but at a price for many……

The Illusion from yesterday is the overlay of vertical lines over the photo, which gives it the effect of the shot looking more vertical than it really is.  You can see them a bit on the left side of the photo.

Illusion

In the photo above I have created an illusion.  Study it and see if you tell what it is that is causing you to see the shot as you see it.

Answer on the next blog. Unless you want to venture a guess…..

The above shot conveys what is happening in our part of the world right now.  Took this yesterday, part of  I think a sub-conconsis series on water reflections I seem to be doing.  I have some ideas for shoots but they are going to have to wait till it drys up.

The Eyes Have It

In “The Money Shot” as we call it in the above photo, I have bumped up the eye area for the blog.  The reason being is the model-Ellery- won “Best Eyes” in last weekend’s Jessica Elkins Memorial Beauty Pageant….so congratulations to EL  on her win.  It was unfortunate that both TammiG and myself were otherwise engaged at the wrestling tournament or we could have gotten some shots at the pagent….of course her Mother said she should have gotten most photogenic as well….anyway…  you go girl….

One From TammiG

The above shot was taken by TammiG on our bloom foray yesterday.  We were working on some flash to ambient ratios.  We saw several bee’s working the blooms and this a good thing….if you remember there was (is) an alarm over the mass deaths of bee’s last year.  They found a mite that was causing much of the problem but not all….simply put… if the bee’s go, we go…. this small little creature is a major hinge pin in our food chain.
